Under the auspices of His Beatitude Patriarch Michel Sabbah, and in the presence of his Excellency Bishop Selim Sayegh Aux. Bishop & General Vicar of Jordan, a march and the placement of the cornerstone for Our Lady of Peace Centre was organized in Aqaba on March 29th 2007. This march was attended by the Chargé d’ Affaires of the Vatican Embassy in the Kingdom, and Mr. Saleh Kilani; deputy of Aqaba Governor, as well as the director of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Holy Places in addition to the governorate department heads.

This march proceeded from the tenth region and ended in the eight region, where the cornerstone of Aqaba Centre was placed. Afterwards, Mr. Kilani explained the importance of establishing this centre and its free services to be offered to the residents of Aqaba, exemplifying the governorate appreciation to the continuous efforts of the Central Committee by offering this allocated land, to be used for the centre. On another hand, the director of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Holy Places in Aqaba, Sheikh Suleiman Bulbul, welcomed H.B. Patriarch Michel Sabbah, emphasizing the importance of H.B. presence and the huge role he plays in maintaining the Christian and Islamic holy places in Jerusalem, affirming the values of co-existence in Jordan between Christians and Muslims in the national unity and social fabric, stemming from the teachings of Islam tolerant to worship one God, serve, and nation-build, identifying strong national unity in the approach of His Majesty King Abdulla II.

Furthermore, His Beatitude Patriarch Michel Sabbah stressed the importance of this centre in its service to people with disabilities, highlighting the humanitarian, national and spiritual imperative service that is in line with the teachings of the divine in all religions, emphasizing the importance of unity in our service in all areas, and thanking all political, religious and social figures for their support to this centre.

Later on Eng. Majdi Dayyat indicated that the efforts of Our Lady of Peace Aqaba committees culminated in this piece of land, explaining the strong corporation between Aqaba Governorate and Our Lady of Peace Center, signifying that Our Lady of Peace Centre is a national Jordanian institution that carries the national and humanitarian message for people with disabilities, and highlighting the main mission of this institution which is raising awareness to the rights of people with disabilities, seeking in its work to develop true partnership with institutions in this avenue, and at the end, eng. Dayyat thanked the governorate of Aqaba for this generous donation.

At the end Our Lady of Peace Central Committee organized a luncheon in the Intercontinental Hotel, for those offering support to the centre.

It is important to note that the centre will be established in the eight region on a land of 2170 square meters, where the construction itself will occupy 1300 square meters, that will constitute physio- and occupational therapy halls, special classes for severe disabilities, meeting rooms and other rehabilitation courts, where all services will be provided free of charge, noting that the first phase of the construction has been funded by ASEZA, Manos Unidas (Spain), and FPSC.
