Under the auspices
of His Beatitude Patriarch Michel Sabbah,
and in the presence of his Excellency
Bishop Selim Sayegh Aux. Bishop &
General Vicar of Jordan, a march and the
placement of the cornerstone for Our
Lady of Peace Centre was organized in
Aqaba on March 29th 2007. This march was
attended by the Chargé d’ Affaires of
the Vatican Embassy in the Kingdom, and
Mr. Saleh Kilani; deputy of Aqaba
Governor, as well as the director of
Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Holy
Places in addition to the governorate
department heads.
This march proceeded from the tenth
region and ended in the eight region,
where the cornerstone of Aqaba Centre
was placed. Afterwards, Mr. Kilani
explained the importance of establishing
this centre and its free services to be
offered to the residents of Aqaba,
exemplifying the governorate
appreciation to the continuous efforts
of the Central Committee by offering
this allocated land, to be used for the
centre. On another hand, the director of
Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Holy
Places in Aqaba, Sheikh Suleiman Bulbul,
welcomed H.B. Patriarch Michel Sabbah,
emphasizing the importance of H.B.
presence and the huge role he plays in
maintaining the Christian and Islamic
holy places in Jerusalem, affirming the
values of co-existence in Jordan between
Christians and Muslims in the national
unity and social fabric, stemming from
the teachings of Islam tolerant to
worship one God, serve, and
nation-build, identifying strong
national unity in the approach of His
Majesty King Abdulla II.
Furthermore, His Beatitude Patriarch
Michel Sabbah stressed the importance of
this centre in its service to people
with disabilities, highlighting the
humanitarian, national and spiritual
imperative service that is in line with
the teachings of the divine in all
religions, emphasizing the importance of
unity in our service in all areas, and
thanking all political, religious and
social figures for their support to this
centre.
Later on Eng. Majdi Dayyat indicated
that the efforts of Our Lady of Peace
Aqaba committees culminated in this
piece of land, explaining the strong
corporation between Aqaba Governorate
and Our Lady of Peace Center, signifying
that Our Lady of Peace Centre is a
national Jordanian institution that
carries the national and humanitarian
message for people with disabilities,
and highlighting the main mission of
this institution which is raising
awareness to the rights of people with
disabilities, seeking in its work to
develop true partnership with
institutions in this avenue, and at the
end, eng. Dayyat thanked the governorate
of Aqaba for this generous donation.
At the end Our Lady of Peace Central
Committee organized a luncheon in the
Intercontinental Hotel, for those
offering support to the centre.
It is important to note that the centre
will be established in the eight region
on a land of 2170 square meters, where
the construction itself will occupy 1300
square meters, that will constitute
physio- and occupational therapy halls,
special classes for severe disabilities,
meeting rooms and other rehabilitation
courts, where all services will be
provided free of charge, noting that the
first phase of the construction has been
funded by ASEZA, Manos Unidas (Spain),
and FPSC.
